Deconstructing Our Triangle Jacket: Patterning, Adjusting, and Sleeve Design

In this session, we dove into the technical process of turning our draped triangle jacket design into a functional pattern, with a special focus on adapting it to fit my own measurements. We went over the entire draped piece on the form, making decisions about length and fit, and then I demonstrated how to add a fully closed sleeve for a more traditional jacket look, as well as keeping the original cold-shoulder option. This session was all about showing you how to take an artistic drape and methodically translate it into a precise, wearable, and customizable pattern.

This week, we dove right back into our exciting new series on draping with triangles, and the creative energy was definitely flowing! I wanted to continue exploring the incredible versatility of this shape, showing how just a few simple pieces of fabric can be transformed into sophisticated and modern garments. We played with a couple of different ideas, creating an asymmetrical top and then evolving that concept into a fun, edgy, and very wearable dress that I think you’re all going to love.

The Power of Triangles: Kicking Off a New Geometric Draping Series

I was so excited to kick off a brand new draping series today, all centered around one of the most versatile and powerful geometric shapes: the triangle. You can create an endless variety of designs, I would say at least 15 to 20 completely different looks, just by playing with triangles of different sizes and fabrics. In this session, I demonstrated two incredibly simple yet chic designs using basic triangular pieces cut from jersey, showing just how fast and fun it is to create with this shape.

A Five-Minute Drape: Creating a Chic Dress with a Simple "Envelope Fold"

In this week's live session, I was excited to share another simple but incredibly powerful "creative fold" technique that I call the "envelope fold." It's a quick, five-minute trick that creates the illusion of a twist or a knot on the fabric, which can then be used as a beautiful focal point for a dress or a top. To show its potential, I demonstrated how to create a full, effortlessly chic dress in under an hour by combining this single detail with two simple rectangular pieces of fabric.

From Favorite T-Shirt to Custom Design: Pattern Drafting a New Top

In this week's live session, I decided to start a personal project and take you all along for the ride: making clothes for myself! I wanted to create a new top inspired by one of our past projects: a design with a beautiful, effortless drape created by a curved hemline. Instead of draping from scratch, I decided to show you how to take a pattern from a favorite, well-fitting t-shirt and then use that as a base block to draft a brand-new design, a process I call "pattern hacking."
